05 Jan New Sports Law published
After much expectation, a long wait and not without controversy, the new Spanish Sports Law was published last December 31. It establishes the new legal regulatory framework for sport. According to the Consejo Superior de Deportes (CSD), it responds to the regulatory renewal that the sports ecosystem had been clamouring for years to face the new social reality, after more than thirty years of validity of the previous Law.
In addition to regulating the rights and duties of athletes, it also recognises the practice of sports as a right, aims to eliminate inequalities based on sex, gender and disability, promotes the presence of women in the field of sport and incorporates measures related to environmental protection, ecological transition and innovation through digitisation.
